Class Description

Part of Interdisciplinary Graduate Design Studio. Wednesday morning is technique based classes in art skills. Fall classes alternate in acrylic & watercolor painting techniques every other year. Fall 2018 & 2020 I taught watercolor techniques through a series of copy projects which build upon each other. Objective is to provide the student a strong foundation in watercolor techniques, supplies, & exposure to a variety of painters and their approaches to the medium. 
FALL 2018
  • First time watercolor painting & techniques was introduced into rotation of art skills classes in graduate studio
  • Followed the same structure of the acrylic painting class
  • Introduced students to watercolor & gauche 
  • Used works of master fine artists & theatrical designers for copy projects
FALL 2020
  • Diversify the artists in terms of gender & BIPOC
    • Goal of 40/60 gender divide
    • Goal of wider diversity of Western artists 
  • Reinforce Foundations
    • Color chart required for all students 
    • Create sample paper packets for all 
  • Zoom Learning Curve
    • Camera on the painting, not student
    • Filming of painting for later use in Fast Forward
    • Use of breakout rooms fr one on one interactions 
  • Alumni Videos based on techniques &/or specific artist
    • Alumni generated demo videos throughout the semester
    • Theatre shut down due to Covid
      • Alumni has the time to do the demos
      • Provided (modest) pay to unemployed & underemployed alumni
      • Provided interaction of current grads with alumni of the program
